DAVID FRANKEL SIGNS UP TO DIRECT SEPTIMUS HEAP FILM
Things are moving up a gear on the film Septimus Heap:Magyk . The film has been in development since Warner acquired the rights in 2007. Last week it was announced that Emmy and Academy Award winner David Frankel has signed on to direct and develop the fantasy feature for Warner Bros.
Fans will be pleased to know that this film will be a live action adaption and not an animated film as reported elsewhere, and is scheduled for release after the last Harry Potter film hits the screen in 2011. The erroneous reports about this being an animated film seem to stem from the news that CG animation work has already been started on several of the non-human characters that feature in the story.
Karen Rosenfelt is producing through Sunswept Entertainment. David Frankel and Karen Rosenfelt previously worked together on the 2006 hit “The Devil Wears Prada”. Courtenay Valenti at Warners is closely associated with the development of this project.
The Septimus Heap books are already hugely successful, selling over a million copies in the United States alone and reaching no. 1 in the New York Times Best Sellers List. The fifth installment in the Septimus Heap series, Syren, is due out in the UK from Bloomsbury this October.
