On offer is the first printing of the first edition of the U.K./Gollancz release of The Fireman by Joe Hill. This is the collectable 'Red Edged' edition with red coloured page edges. It is signed to a tip in page by Joe Hill. Also included is a bookmark used to promote The Fireman and a very rare signed 153 page softcover preview edition is also included. This preview edition was published the previous year 2015 to promote The Fireman. It contains the first 13 chapters and the text is double spaced. The promotional blurb on the back features the original planned publication date of 17.5.2016 which was later changed to 7.6.2016. This is not to be confused with the 32 page Waterstones preview booklet given out at the Gollancz festival as this has a much larger page and chapter count. First edition, signed to the title page by Joël Dicker.

August 30, 1975. The day of the disappearance. The day Somerset, New Hampshire, lost its innocence.

That summer, struggling author Harry Quebert fell in love with fifteen-year-old Nola Kellergan. Thirty-three years later, her body is dug up from his yard, along with a manuscript copy of the novel that made him a household name. Quebert is the only suspect.

Marcus Goldman - Quebert's most gifted protégé - throws off his writer's block to clear his mentor's name. Solving the case and penning a new bestseller soon merge into one. As his book begins to take on a life of its own, the nation is gripped by the mystery of 'The Girl Who Touched the Heart of America'.

But with Nola, in death as in life, nothing is ever as it seems.

FREEDOM Scarce First UK Edition with Uncorrected Text (Signed to the title Page)
United Kingdom 4th Estate 2010 0007269757 First edition, first printing Hardcover New, fine New, fine Hardcover
First printing of the first edition with a solitary number 1 on the copyright page. The story is well reported in the press that the uncorrected version was mistakenly sent to the printers by the publisher. The first three printings were taken from the uncorrected file and have been subject to a nationwide recall to be pulped. Of the two printings, 80,000 were printed and it was reported that 8000 of the first and second printings were sold before the recall, although a few more will likely have sold before all copies of the first two printings make it back to be pulped. Either way, there will be very few first printings on the collectors market.

Only a handful of events have been arranged in the UK to promote the book and at most of these events, only the reprinted edition were made available, so signed firsts are very scarce indeed.

This first edition has been signed to the title page by Jonathan Franzen. A more desirable collectable than the tip-in page version. A fine hardcover in a fine dust-wrapper.
Price: 60.00 GBP

 215.  Jones, Lloyd.
MISTER PIP Signed, Lined & Dated UK First Edition.
United Kingdom. John Murray. 2007 0719564565 First edition. First printing. Hardcover. New. Very fine. New. Very fine. Signed, Lined & Dated by Lloyd Jones.
First edition, first printing of the UK Hardcover published in 2007 by John Murray. The first print run was very small and one of the hardest of the Booker shortlist to find.

Hardcover and dust wrapper are exceptional in new and very fine condition. (A lot of the first printings have flaws such as minor pushing to the spine ends or bumped boards. The dust wrapper is prone to shelf wear because of the finish and paper used, many copies have major rubbing and small closed tears.) This is one of the very few pristine copies with no bumps at all and square corners and sharp spine ends. The dust-wrapper is lovely, with none of the imperfections commonly associated with this book.

This has been signed, first-lined: "Everyone called him Popeye." and dated: "27. 2. 08" at the Bath Literary Festival 2008.

SYNOPSIS
'You cannot pretend to read a book. Your eyes will give you away. So will your breathing. A person entranced by a book simply forgets to breathe. The house can catch alight and a reader deep in a book will not look up until the wallpaper is in flames.' It is Bougainville in 1991 - a small village on a lush tropical island in the South Pacific. Eighty-six days have passed since Matilda's last day of school as, quietly, war is encroaching from the other end of the island. When the villagers' safe, predictable lives come to a halt, Bougainville's children are surprised to find the island's only white man, a recluse, re-opening the school. Pop Eye, aka Mr Watts, explains he will introduce the children to Mr Dickens. Matilda and the others think a foreigner is coming to the island and prepare a list of much needed items. They are shocked to discover their acquaintance with Mr Dickens will be through Mr Watts' inspiring reading of "Great Expectations". But on an island at war, the power of fiction has dangerous consequences. Imagination and beliefs are challenged by guns. "Mister Pip" is an unforgettable tale of survival by story; a dazzling piece of writing that lives long in the mind after the last page is finished.

Impressive debut by Sadie Jones, compared by some to Ian McEwan. A fine first edition, first printing, signed and first-lined and dated to the title page by Sadie Jones.

PRAISE FOR THE OUTCAST

A wonderfully assured first novel. Guardian

The prose is elegant and spare, but the story it reveals is raw and explosive… Devastatingly good. Daily Mail

The Outcast grips from page one… Jones has captured the stultifying morals and mores of Fifties English middle-class life with satisfying accuracy. Publishing News

Set in post WWII suburban London, this superb debut novel charts the downward spiral and tortured redemption of a young man shattered by loss. The war is over, and Lewis Aldridge is getting used to having his father, Gilbert, back in the house. Things hum along splendidly until Lewis’s mother drowns, casting the 10-year-old into deep isolation…Jones’s prose is fluid, and Lewis’s suffering comes across as achingly real. Publishers Weekly

A confident, suspenseful and affecting first novel, delivered in cool, precise, distinctive prose. Kirkus
