 | 2. | Lawrence, Michael Milking the Novelty UK. Wordybug 2005. Limited Edition. First Printing Softcover. New. Very fine. sewn binding. 12 mo. Signed and Numbered by Michael Lawrence.
This is one of a limited edition of 350 signed and numbered copies of the autobiographical memoirs of Michael Lawrence, author of many children's novels including the Jiggy McCue series, and the superb Aldous Lexicon trilogy (book three of which, is out later in the year). For collectors of Michael Lawrence's work this book is a must.
Anderida Books still maintain that the Aldous Lexicon is a 'sleeping giant', and once the trilogy is complete, it will become highy sought after by collectors worldwide. As with many great authors, this will have a knock-on effect with Michael's other work. (Look what His Dark Materials did for Pullman regarding the collector market). For the sake of a few pounds now, is it worth regretting later on that you didn't buy this book at cover price when you had the chance. Others who might like this book, who are not yet familiar with Michael Lawrence's other work, will be readers and collectors of biographies and autobiographies. Specifically with an interest in an alternative view of 1960s London, Paris and holiday camps
or the adventures of a young photographer
at that time.
SYNOPSIS - About thirty years before his first book was published Michael Lawrence was a freelance photographer in London. At twenty-one, unimpressed with the burgeoning pop culture of the 1960s, he gave up his balconied flat in Pimlico and, with just £15 in his pocket, set off for Paris and a different kind of life. In Paris a great many things happened to him, but it was years before he began to write about them, along with other things that had occurred around that time. Then, gradually, over many more years, a book emerged. This book.
In Milking the Novelty Michael asks Judy Garland to get off his case, photographs The Moody Blues among the mummies in The British Museum, prints the early girlie photos of Bob Guccione (about to launch Penthouse magazine), has his fortune wrongly foretold by the elderly Coco Chanel, takes up residence in the luxury apartment of a Japanese samurai without his knowledge, sleeps in Marianne Faithfull's bath, joins the cardboard box brigade on the Metro steps, and shares a Butlin's chalet with Christine Keeler's father.
But some quite interesting things happen as well. PLEASE NOTE: Publication date is 15th June 2005. Please order now, and the book will be sent as soon as it is in stock. PARENTAL WARNING: This book contains language and passages that are not suitable for younger readers.

 | 4. | Lawrence, Michael Small Eternities - Unique UK. Orchard Books 2004 First edition. First printing. Hardcover. Fine. As New. Very Fine. 8 vo. Signed, Dated and Inscribed.
This is we believe a totally unique copy of Small Eternities by Michael Lawrence. As you can see from the photograph, Michael has signed and dated the book on the date of publication and also added the following inscription: "A copy from another small eternity, where many things are not quite as we feel they should be. ML".
Michael has obviously drawn a parallel with this particular copy of the book and his story.
But why?
The text block has been bound upside down!
This in itself must be extremely rare, but to have such an inscription added by the author, makes this book all the more special.
The book has some minor bumping to the boards, which in view of its rarity is of secondary importance. The dustcover has been replaced, so there is no evidence of the bumping.
A high price, because this is my only (and probably THE only) copy.
Trade offers are welcome on this book for cash purchase or exchange of stock.
